World Hall of Fame 1901

The second set of inductees to my World Sports Hall of Fame are

Alvin Kraenzlein (US – Athletics) – The first athlete to win four gold medals at an Olympic Games when winning the 60m,110m hurdles, 200m hurdles and long jump at the 1900 Paris games. Set world records at hurdles and long jump.

Carl Schuhmann (Germany- Gymnastics and Wrestling) – at the 1896 Olympics won three gold medals in gymnastics (one individual gold) and also a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Tom Morris Senior (GB – Golf)  The first man to win the Open golf championship four times (1861/2/4/7). the 1867 makes him still the oldest ever champion at 46 years old. Was a leading figure in the game for over fifty years.

Wilhelm Steinitz (Austria – Chess) The first undisputed chess champion,from 1886 to 1894. He remained unbeaten in competitive matches for 25 years and invented the positional play style of chess.
