World Hall of Fame 1908

 

Ray Ewry (USA – Athletics)  – won eight Olympic gold medals between 1900 and 1908 plus two more at the Intercalated Games of 1906. These were in the standing high jump,long jump and triple jump. This is still the second highest total of gold medals in individual events in Olympic history.

Marcus Hurley (USA -Cycling) – winner of four gold medals at the 1904 Olympic Games in St.Louis at distances from quarter of a mile to one mile. Also won a bronze at two miles.

John Roberts Junior (Great Britain- Billiards) – The first great billiards player. He won the world title in 1870 and defended it seven times. After defending the title in 1885 he declined to make any more defences but remained the best player in the game for another decade.

Konrad Staheli (Switzerland -Shooting): Won three gold medals in the 1900 Olympic Games and two more at the intercalated games in 1906, where he also won two silvers and a bronze. He also won 69 medals (44 in individual events) at world championships.
