Sportsmen and Sportswomen of 2012 from Around the World

 A list of some of the winners of awards as the best sportsmen and sportswomen of 2012 from different countries. I have also included a brief note of their achievements in 2012.

Argentina
Sergio Martinez (Boxer) current The Ring, Lineal, and WBC Middleweight Champion

Australia
AIS Athlete of the Year –
Alicia Coutts (Swimming) (5 medals -1 gold at the Olympics)
and Tom Slingsby (Sailing) Won the Men’s Laser Gold Medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the World Championships

Belgium
Tom Boonen cycling won several big races including Paris–Roubaix and Tour of Flanders
Evi Van Acker sailing won the bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition in the Laser Radial class,
Best team – Belgium national hockey team (5th at Olympics) 

Brazil
Arthur Zanetti (Gymnastics) won the gold medal on rings exercise at the 2012 Summer Olympics
Sheilla Castro (Volleyball) won the gold medal and the Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer awards in the 2012 FIVB Club World Championship. Gpld medal at the Olympics.

Bulgaria
Kubrat Pulev (Boxing) currently holds the EBU Heavyweight title and the IBF International Heavyweight title.

Canada
Christine Sinclair, a soccer player who led the Canadian team to a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics
Ryder Hesjedal, named the victor after winning the Giro d’Italia, becoming the first Canadian to win a Grand Tour event

Croatia
Giovanni Cernogoraz Competing in shotgun events, he won the Olympic gold medal in men’s trap
Sandra Perkovic discus thrower, reigning European and Olympic champion.
Men – Croatia national water polo team (Olympic champions)
Women – Croatia national handball team

Czech Republic
Barbora Spotakova  Olympic javelin champion
Team – Czech Republic Davis Cup team (won the Cup)

Lasse Norman Hansen – cyclist .He won the gold medal in the omnium event at the 2012 London Olympics

Camille Muffat swimmer, three-time Olympic medalist at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she won gold in the 400-meter freestyle
